Bruce Chadwick who is the stage manager for all of the
Society of American Magicians' stage shows at their national
conventions was badly burned on new year's day when a can of fuel
for his barbecue exploded in his hands and set him on fire. He is
now home recuperating. Most of the burns were 2nd and 3rd degree.
He is expected to undergo much therapy and possible skin grafts.

Abracadabra: the Art of Magic is the title of an exhibit
which opens on Jan. 14 at The Brea Gallery (Brea Civic and
Cultural Center, 1 Civic Center Circle, Plaza Level) in Brea, CA.
The exhibit will feature props, costumes, memorabilia and posters.

Houdini is profiled in a new book by Michael Reynard titled
"Money Secrets of the Rich and Famous." The book
analyzes how successful and not so successful people have managed
their money and who they left it to. In addition to Houdini he
also looks at George Washington, Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein
and many others. The book is also full of insights about the
subjects. For example did you know that, "Houdini was an avid
autograph collector. At one time, he had the largest private
collection of letters personally written by Abraham Lincoln."
The book, published by Allworth Press, is a 256 page hardcover

INDIA: The 8th World Deaf Magicians Festival will be held
at Nagpur on January 17-24. The convention was established in 1986
and runs every two years. The highlights of the festival are
usually the competitions in stage magic, comedy magic, and
micro-magic where only deaf magicians can participate. The event
