Jeff Favor fanned his deck out in front
of me and gave that eternal request, the
trademark of his craft: "Pick a card,
any card." I drew the queen of clubs and
replaced it into the deck without
showing him. He shuffled, put the cards
behind his back, and without warning
gave a violent wheezing cough. I
watched, terrified and enthralled, as
Favor extracted from his mouth the queen
of clubs, folded twice in half.
