Construction has stopped on David Copperfields
restaurant in New York. Massive cost overruns used up the $26 million budget for the Magic
Underground. Originally projected to cost $20 million now estimates have increased to more
than $30 million. About 25 of the contractors have filed more than $15 million in liens
against the project. A spokesperson said that a new backer has been found and they expect
to resume construction in the next 30 days. When it finally opens it will be the most
expensive restaurant in the world. To read a Peter Grant story in the Sep. 11 New York

Steve
Beam has announced that his magic magazine "The Trapdoor" will cease publication
with issue #70 after 15 years and almost 1500 pages. Up to about four years ago everyone
was complaining that there were too many magazines out there. Slowly these magazines have
been perishing. Is the web a contributing factor? Is there an information overload? Will
the quantity of books and videos released also have to be scaled down? Only time will
tell. (9/20)Belinda Sinclair, Patrick Slaughter, Torkova, and Peter
Samelson appear at Monday Night Magic on
Sep. 21 in NYC. For tickets call Ticketmaster
at: (212) 307-4100. (9/20)
