David Copperfield in a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette titled, The
Price Of Fame tells us that: "I'm clearly an illusionist who
does magic... The effect is magic. But I'm honest; I'm an
illusionist. I'm not claiming to have any supernatural powers -- I
may have them, but I'm not claiming to have them." He also

The first "Magic International - 2000"
convention
held in Jaipur, India on Jan. 26-28 attracted around 150 magicians
from India and 28 from abroad. International talent came from
Russia, Germany, USA, Cyprus, and Mauritius. The highlight of the
event was a cocktail party where Indian Street Jugglers performed
classic Indian Magic like the Great Indian Mango Trick and the
Great Indian Basket Trick. K. Lal received a lifetime achievement
award and Anand received the Pride of Indian Magic Award.
Convention chairman Mahipal Gupta also announced that the
Government of Rajasthan promised to help in the creation of a
Magic Academy in Jaipur (Capital of Rajasthan) to help develop
& flourish the art of magic.(2/1)

belongings were held
for ransom by a Russian Mob after his Dec. 12 performance in
Moscow. He had to hire the IGI security agency which is staffed
with former CIA and FBI agents who then hired an ex-KGB who
negotiated a deal where Copperfield had to pay $250, 000 to get

Siegfried & Roy celebrate their first 10 years of shows
at the Mirage on Tuesday Feb. 1. At the party they were also
presented with the "Millennium Merlin Award" as
magicians of the century. The bronze statue of a magician pulling
a rabbit out of a top hat was presented by Tony Hassini's
International Magicians Society (IMS). In his acceptance speech
Siegfried joked, "If you want to be in show business, do it
alone. Forty years with Roy, what a record. I deserve another

Magic is the theme of an art exhibit at the Business of Art
Center in Manitou Springs, CO where Joe Givan and Carol Massie
performed and were among the judges at the opening night
ceremonies. Givan said, "There is a huge connection [between
magic and art], ...We consider magic as an art form." The
