rumors of his next big event which is scheduled for May, "I'm

Walter Edward Cummings died on Tuesday Feb. 15. He was
born, Kaminski, on Sep. 9 1904 in Utica, NY where he spent most of
his life -- he was 95 years old. Cummings was known for his
outstanding manipulative skills with cards and billiard balls.
Billed as the "Prince of Cards" he performed all over
the world, including a stint during WWII where he entertained the
troops. He also performed an escape act under the name
"Mysterious Cummings." He is best remembered as a Chavez
student and teacher -- he continued to teach magic and
manipulation until the end. His students reportedly included Channing Pollock, Neil Foster, and Tony Curtis who he prepared for
his role as Houdini. Funeral services will be held on Friday Feb.
18 at 8:15am at the Myslinski Funeral Home in Utica, NY. For a

Blackstone -- a musical which is loosely based on the life
of Harry Blackstone Sr. is closer to becoming a reality. The
rights to the show were purchased by Teri Mitze in 1998 -- the
book has been written by Ivan Menchell, music by Grant Sturiale,
lyrics by Barry Harman, choreography by Patricia Birch, and the
magic consultants are Charles Reynolds and Gay Blackstone. The
cast should be put together in the spring and summer with an out
of town opening in the fall. It will eventually get to Broadway.

Mike Elkan is featured in the
Antelope Valley Press. He
describes magicians as, "...professional liars -- what we do
is not what we say, and what we say is not the truth. ...A
magician's job is to entertain the audience by whatever means
possible. Some magicians do it in big fashion on stage or
television, and others do it close up in an intimate
setting," While working at the Magic Castle Elkan was
booked to appear at magic conventions in France in May and in New
Zealand in October. Commenting about the recent exposures of magic
he said, "As a magician, if you do a good show, the people
aren't trying to figure it out; they're too busy being
entertained." To read the Feb. 18 story by Rich Breault
