The genteel National Arts Club in New York City provides
an opulent yet intimate setting for the presentation of
a style of conjuring skewed to just such well-appointed
salons and those who might be their habitués. Steve
Cohen's production of " Chamber Magic: A
Demonstration of Modern Conjuring" harks back to an
earlier era when wealthy or titled patrons hosted or
attended elegant entertainments in drawing rooms and
conservatories. "Malini, Bertram and Hofzinser are
my models," confided Cohen to MagicTimes.
"Their performances were intended for an elite
and moneyed clientele." ...Go

in Jackson Heights and send money back to Ecuador to help put his
daughter through college." Olmedini explained, "In the
subway… I am famous. …People in the subway, they love me…
But you know what my fondest wish is? It's to be so successful
that I never have to work in the subway again." To read the

talk to be given by Joseph Suplicki, a relative of John Henry
Terhune who performed as Harry Rouclere in the late 1800's early
1900's with his wife Mildred. The Roucleres were very talented and

Looks like next year we might have two
very similar
movies which are based on the adventures of Robert-Houdin.
Announced this week is the making of "The Magician's
Wife" into a movie, but the story is just another version of
Smoke & Mirrors which will star Michael Douglas and Catherine
Zeta-Jones. A Snowball.com article noted, "Now, I am not
saying that The Magician's Wife is a "rip-off" of Smoke
& Mirrors; both stories are based on historical events that
are part of the public record so it is fair game." To read
the Jun. 1 story by Stax titled "Holy Smoke! Dueling
Magicians?" click: HERE.(6/2)
