Guy Bavli just taped an infomercial in Sofia, Bulgaria for the Princess line of electronic kitchen products. The ad campaign titled "Magic Princess" will feature Bavli as the host of the infomercials and will include performance segments with him bending spoons a doing magic with the products. The commercials will begin airing this month on channels RTL, SAT1 and VOX in Germany and Austria and will later expand to the rest of Europe.(9/11)

Ricky Jay is scheduled to present his new Off-Broadway show "Back in New York" at the Second Stage Theater in New York City in March, 2002. David Mamet who directed "Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants" will also direct the new show. According to a New York Times article Jay described the new show as, "the show will include stories of 'pickpockets, low-lifes and swindlers,' as well as 'a history of Broadway and its environs.'" The devastating tragedy at the world trade center in New York City has shook the world. I have done countless shows at Windows On The World atop of One World Center and performed at the tenth anniversary celebration atop of Two World Trade Center. Many magicians have appeared at and visited these two buildings, which are no longer there. Known magicians who regularly work in the vicinity are Eric DeCamps, Palmer Tilden and Jim Stewart. Joseph Michael White (Jan. 1, 1925-Sep. 10, 2001) died on Monday of a heart attack. White used many different names throughout his career, he went under, Little Joe White, Micro, Puzzles the Clown, Little Oscar, Prince Tiny, Midget Magician, The World's Smallest Magician, and The World's Smallest Magician and Mentalist." Being only four feet, four inches tall he regularly joked about his size, "I'm never short on jokes… but I am short." He contributed many routines to magic magazines and wrote several books on magic including: Micro Mental Miracles (1965), Magic For Heaven's Sake (1962), Scotch Brand Of Magic (1967), Micro Mental Programs (1966), Select Mental Effects (1980), and Wee Wizard's Wiles (1987). Houdini may have put a recently discovered trapdoor in The Grand Opera House. Pennsylvania State University scientists are studying how magicians shake a knot into a rope in order to improve the odds of doing it with 100 percent accuracy. According to a Nature News article "The researchers think that self-knotting involves collisions between different parts of the chain - which is actually nothing magicians didn't know already: the secret of the knot trick is to flick the rope so that the free end is knocked through a loop by colliding with another part of the rope." Siegfried & Roy who were scheduled to fly to Germany this week to receive the 2001 Golden Henne award (a prestigious German media award) have decided to stay home in "respect for the victims of the terrorist attacks and their survivors." Roy commented, "If any awards are to be given, the members of the New York fire and police department deserve them… Though we're a few thousand miles away from New York and Washington, DC, the impact of these horrendous and maniacal events make it seem that it happened just down the street. What we have seen is surreal and at times seemed more like a movie."
