A NIGHT OF MAGIC! |
| Source: Richard Cohn The long-running Good Coffeehouse series of shows at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture will introduce something new to the program when A Night of Magic is presented at the Society¹s meeting house in Park Slope on Friday, January 25th, at 800 p.m. Produced by noted Brooklyn magic authority, performer, author and historian Richard Steven Cohn, A Night of Magic will feature performances by Cohn and a stellar line-up of some of the top prestidigitorial talent in the New York City area. As of press time headlined acts include mental marvel Marco Monteverdi, globetrotting magician Frank Brents, and the sounds and sorcery of husband-and-wife team The Melodions. Also scheduled are NYC¹s #1 female magician Belinda Sinclair, award-winning manipulation by Torkova, and a return to Brooklyn of veteran master of magic and comedy (still knocking the crowds out where ever he appears) Prof. Bobby Baxter (as seen on TV¹s Ed Sullivan Show). Program subject to change. Brooklyn has a long association with abracadabra. Houdini and his magician brother Hardeen lived on E. 21st Street for many years. The great illusionists Jean Hugard and Roltair were associated with Dreamland and Luna Park in Coney Island. The many theaters throughout the borough hosted all the great performers of legerdemain. The first American magic magazine, Mahatma, was published in Brooklyn at the beginning of the 20th century by the legendary Frank Ducrot. A Night of Magic returns this great tradition of theatrical thaumaturgy to the county of Kings. A Night of Magic is all LIVE, before your very eyes, without TV or video tricks. A Night of Magic is a rare, not-to-be-missed evening of Fun, Foolery and Fantasy presented in the warmth and intimacy of the meeting room of the beautiful 100-year-old historic meeting house of the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture at 53 Prospect Park West at 2nd Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Doors open at 8pm; tickets are $10. The Good Coffeehouse has been offering Friday night shows for nearly 30 years. Further information about this show and other shows in the Good Coffeehouse series may be obtained by contacting the Good Coffeehouse at 718-768-2972 or at www.bsec.org. Travel directions Q train to 7th Av station in Brooklyn; F train to 7th Av; 1/2 train to Grand Army Plaza.
