AMERICAN magician Franz Harary vanished
into thin air before quickly reappearing
Sunday at the Chang Kai-Shek Memorial
Hall in Taipei, offering a glimpse of
what audiences can expect when he
performs four shows next week. After
entering a large wooden crate on the
plaza in front of the Taipei landmark,
the illusionist stuck his hands through
two holes in the crate and had them
bound together by an iron chain....

A mural of a theater which existed more
than 100 years ago will connect
Marshalltown's rich historic past with
one of its favorite sons - T. Nelson
("Tommy") Downs... And Downs contributed
much to that era's entertainment history
as a world-famous magician who performed
illusions and coin tricks before kings
and other heads of state in Europe at
the turn of the 20th century. He
returned to Marshalltown numerous times
to perform his magic acts. The
Times-Republican bestowed the honor
"King of Koins" on Downs. That moniker
was used on posters and other
promotional period and it stuck
throughout his life..

Magician to appear at Stuttgart library
program - Stuttgart Daily Leader
Scott Davis, a magician and popular
attraction at the Stuttgart Public
Library, will give two performances at
the summer reading program at 10 a.m.
Friday, June 10 and July 29 in the
Carrie Pettit Conference Room at the
library at 2002 S. Buerkle St. “We are
always so happy to have Scott Davis at
the library this year,” Anna Bates,
assistant director of the Stuttgart
Public Library, said. “He can really
pack that room.”...

Magician among those killed in Pr.

With a flick of his wrist and a few
words, Eugene Johnson could turn a flash
of fire into a white dove. For almost
two decades, Johnson, of Manassas,
captured the attention of area residents
as the turban-sporting Magical Genie. He
was killed early Sunday when the driver
of a Yukon sport-utility vehicle slammed
into the back of his car, sending it
into a tree along Indian Head Highway in
Prince George’s County. Johnson, 53, was
one of three people killed in the crash,
which police said happened just after 3
a.m. His wife, Cordelia Johnson, died,
according to friends and family
members....

streets
A Chula Vista magician sat behind the
wheel of his car Tuesday and drove
blindfolded to the fairgrounds in Del
Mar in celebration of its "Race to the
Fair" theme. “I'm driving blind,” said
Godfrey the Magician. “It's pretty scary
sometimes, but it worked out good.”

Colorado Springs magician Max Hapner,
80, captured his audiences
Max Hapner, who was a magician from the
time he was a pre-teenager, died May 10
in Colorado Springs. He was 80. Hapner
gave his first magic performance when he
was 12, enthralled with magic after
seeing a magician perform. Hapner
exhibited "a certain grandness" in some
of his illusion performances, said a
longtime friend, John Bryan of Colorado
Springs.

Atul Patil, a magician conjures

The spell remains unbroken at a
convention of magicians. The roll of
drums and the clang of cymbals that
signal the start of a magic show can
never fail to get your heart thumping,
especially if there’s a whiff of
kerosene in the air... The man was
magician Atul Patil, president of the
Society of Indian Magicians (SIM), a
79-year-old organisation based in
Mumbai. He went on to devour the coals,
without as much as a burp. The occasion
was Khul Ja Sim Sim 2011, a convention
for Indian and international magicians
which he helped organise in Mumbai last
week.
