Edinburgh comedy notebook: Magicians
pull out funny new tricks - The Guardian
(blog)
Magicians such as Pete Firman and
mind-reader Chris Cox are regular
favourites on the fringe; both are
reinventing and updating the traditional
magic show and have the jokes to match
the high standard of the tricks, while
newcomer Piff the Magic Dragon – imagine
a young Jack Dee in a dragon suit – is
also attracting a lot of attention for
his offbeat approach. If you prefer your
comedy magic a little more old-school,
Paul Daniels and the (lovely, of course)
Debbie McGee are still going strong with
a more family-friendly show....

Magicians like Danny Cole inspired at an
early age - Tahoe Daily Tribune
Masters of Magic headliner Danny Cole is
no exception. He started doing magic
tricks when he was 10. “Young boys pick
it up at some time in their life,” said
Cole. “I love visual stuff. It's hard to
start later. It's kind of like a
musician. You kind of have to start when
you're little.” One of Cole's mentors,
Tony Clark, is the host of the nightly
show in MontBleu's Blu Nightclub.

Annual convention revitalizes magicians
- Las Vegas Review-Journal
Here, magicians packed The Orleans'
theater to hear Mike Caveney's history
of "Saw a Woman in Half." It was such a
rage in the early 1920s that it sparked
a race to patent variant methods. Five
magicians performed different versions
of the classic. Sitting through that
sounded like ironic torture for a guy
who has reviewed five too many magic
shows. But it was one of the best things
I've watched all year.
