The Great Magician: Filmart Review -
Hollywood Reporter
It was really only a matter of time
before good old-fashioned magic—rabbits,
hats, abracadabra and all that—made an
appearance in Asia, where the magical
and mystical have been cinema standards
for decades. To that end comes director
Derek Yee’s The Great Magician, a step
away from the director’s preferred urban
action fare. Magician is the kind of
colorful, polished amusement that could
find an audience in urban markets around
the globe. Respectable if not
blockbuster box office is possible in
Asia where recognizable stars and novel
a subject could carry the day....

Magician Jason Bishop to take the stage
at UW-Parkside March 29 - Journal Times
One moment, Bishop may have a person
passing through his body; the next he’ll
be coaxing his pet goldfish to swim out
of his smart phone and into his hand.
And while other magicians levitate a
single person, Bishop gets into the act
by levitating himself at the same time.
“Everything about this show is fun, from
the card tricks to the ‘big’ illusions
to the way Jason interacts with the
audience,” said Stephanie Sirovatka-Marshall,
Arts Alive! director. “He’s obviously
having just a great time fooling us and
we’re having a great time being
entertained. People are going to love
this show.”

Why Magicians Are a Scientist's Best
Friend - Wired News
A magician will instantly see the truth
behind any colleague’s illusion. But we
have a bit of an advantage: We know we
are being fooled. Scientists are
instinctive doubters who employ a
rigorous method to zero in on the truth,
but they aren’t necessarily trained to
expect deception by subjects and
collaborators. We can’t make magicians
out of scientists -- we wouldn’t want to
-- but we can help scientists “think in
the groove” -- think like a magician.
And we should...
